.This year N6RC, Dick; N6KJ, Kelly; and KX7M, Denny, were QRV from the San Luis Reservoir Recreation Area in Merced County, just 2 miles west of Interstate 5 and a 30 minute drive east to Los Banos.
We operated CW and SSB on all bands, 160Mhz-15Mhz, and made 1,592 Q's in all 58 states & provinces plus about 10 DX stations in Europe, Japan, and South America!
We were guests of the California Department of State Parks. They authorized us to operate on a knoll overlooking the San Joaquin Valley just east of the San Luis Reservoir. Our site is off limits to the public.
The State is giving us free admission and won't charge us to park our Tri-Ex 50' trailer tower (see www.N6RC.com for CQP 2004-2006 photos and info). Thanks to Ranger Greg Martin for his support!
If you worked us (1,592 Q's in all 58 sections plus about 10 countries), you'll probably enjoy checking out our Merced County CQP site (click on link above). The site is located within the boundaries of the San Luis Recreation Area, but access to the site was not open to the public. Managing Ranger Greg Martin, with California State Parks, was very accommodating to us, and we thank him heartily for the opportunity to enjoy this wonderful CQP site while at the same time getting valuable experience in emergency communications preparedness!
