This site is brand new, and to kick it off, we are highlighting our recent expedition to Glenn County, California, for the California QSO Party! For county hunters, Glenn County is a rare county and that means pileups! Many who worked us had either never worked or confirmed Glenn County. That made for some great fun!
The ham shack was in N6RC's Hummer H2 (see photo and QSL card). My partner on this expedition was Kevin, N6RCE, and no, we're not related! In fact we've both been hams for our entire adult lives, but had never met until about a year ago. We're still trying to recruit N6RCA, N6RCB, N6RCC, and N6RCD to our club, so if you run into any of them, please tell them to give us a call!
We logged 1,015 QSO's, about 50/50 CW and SSB, in about 20 hours from our site in the Mendicino National Forest. The operating site was on Forest Service Land that is not open to the public. A big thank you goes to Bruce Smith at the Forest Service HQ in Willows, California, for supporting us!
Many thanks go also to Pete, W6OOL, and Bob, W6RGG, for giving us permission to haul a Tri-Ex 50' steel tower up to the site at approximately 5,944 foot elevation. The Hummer H2 had no problem pulling the 2,000+ pound trailer, even over roads no wider than the H2 and crisscrossed by 15"- 20" deep, diagonal ravines.
This year N6RC and WB6S (formerly N6RCE) will be active operating N6RC's Hummer H2 on a mobile, county expedition on both HF, both CW and SSB. Below is the expected route we will be taking. Our goal as NCCC members is to help you work as many California counties as possible! As of October 1st, the following counties will be on the list of operation:
Santa Clara, San Benito, Merced, Madera, Mariposa, Tuolumne, Calaveras, & San Joaquin

N6RC & AD6MT will operate 2009 CQP in Orleans, Humboldt County. Our site of operation will be AD6MT's 50 acre farm on the south bank of the Klamath River, just two miles west of the Humboldt-Siskiyou County line.
Antennas will be a 2-el SteppIR with 40m loop and an 80m dipole. N6RC's Hummer will provide the backup in case of problems with the main station.
K6TD, Kevin, my long time CQP partner, will be on Midway Island for the 2009 DXpedition beginning about October 9th. We'll miss Kevin, but Alan is a very worthy replacement. He is the owner of WaveNode, Inc., a popular watt meter with a software dashboard with many nice features. Check it out at
